Construction means assembling the  components which  are ready. The first step of making footwear is design, then pattern making. The next steps are - material cutting like leather upper and lining material, Splitting and skiving, sewing, adhesion etc..

There are many constructions for footwear and one of them is cement construction. Here is the Sequence of Operations of Cement construction

1. Back part moulding 
2. Toe puff attaching 
3. Upper and lining lamination
4. Feather edge stitching
5. Upper conditioning
   
6. Insole attaching
7. Toe and forepart lasting
8. Seat and Side lasting
9. Heat setting
10. Roughing and Scouring
11. Dust cleaning
12. Solvent wiping and/or priming
13. Adhesive application
14. Drying
15. Heat Reactivation
16. Sole press
17. Chilling/Curing
18. De- Lasting
19. Finishing
20. Packaging

Lasting and steps of lasting operation 

Lasting: Lasting is the term involve in stitching the upper over the last surface and securing it to the bottom of the insole by using the tacks, adhesives, stitching or other ways.

Lasting operation can be separated into two steps-

1. Prelasting operation
2.  Post lasting operation

The Standard operation procedure of Prelasting:

1. Back part moulding
2. Toe puff attaching
3. Upper and lining lamination
4. Feather edge stitching
5. Upper conditioning( for moccasin shoe/toe preforming)
6. Insole attaching 

 The Standard operation procedure of Post Lasting:

1. Heat Setting
2. Toe pounding
3. Heel Crowning
4. Surface preparation
5. Solvent wiping or priming
6. Heat reactivation
7. Sole press
8. Curing
9. Delasting
