Golden section (ratio)
Division into eights: Human body is usually measured in units of heads. Generally seven and a half heads.
Features:
- Height of body 8 heads.
- Head of femur ( thigh bone ) at half way point.
- Knee - Half way from head of femur to ground.
- Elbow - level with bottom of rib eadge.
- Length of head - 3/4 head
- Length of forearm - 1 head
- Length of foot - 1 head
- The body width - 2 1/3
2. Golden section ( ratio ):
Is the line segment divided according to the golden ratio. The total length a+b is the longer segment a as a is the shorter segment b. That is
( a + b )/a = a/b
The golden ratio is mathematical constant. It's value approximately - 1.6180339887
Construction of a golden section:
- The perpendicular BC is erected at B with BC = 1/2 AB
- C is joined to A. D is marked on CA So that CD = CB = 1/2 AB
- E is marked on AB so that AE = AD
- E divides AB into the golden section.
(AE + EB )/AE = AE/EB
or ( a+b )/a = a/b
