Upper Leather is the most expensive

In a shoe, there are many parts. Like Upper ( quarter, counter, vamp), Sole, Heel and other  parts consist a Shoe. From them the upper portion belongs the larger  part off  the shoe.

• Soles: 20%
• Heels: 5%

About 70%  of a shoe covered by upper. So surely Upper leather is the most expensive in  a footwear. Besides sole cover  20% in cost and Heel only 5% and other 5%.

Bangladesh Exported about $438 million footwear in last fiscal year 

So if a designer or an engineer  want to make more profit, he/she have to do something on upper. Pattern engineering knowledge is very important in this regard.
