Determination of split tearing strength of supplied leather sample
Scope:
This method can be used for any types of leather.
Principle:
It can be defined as the load required in kg to continue the split the leather sample in 10mm thickness. It is leather to express the split tear strength in 1cm width instead of 1cm thickness.
Purpose:
To know the cohesive strength of leather.
Norm:
IUP-08
Sample size:
75mm ✖ 25mm
Environmental condition:
Time = 48 hours
Temperature = 20 ± 2°C
Humidity = (65± 3)%
Sample Preparation:
The specimen is 75mm long and 25mm width of a rectangle. Split the sample into two layer up to 25mm of the sample.
Method:
Fix the two layer of the sample into the jaw of tensile testing machine. Apply load and continue splitting of sample.
Calculation:
Split tearing strength = Split load ( kg)/width
