Computer Aided Design( CAD):

Computer Aided Design ( CAD ) is that the use of a large range of computer based tools that assist Engineers, Architects and other different design professionals in their design activities. In shortly the use of the IT in design process is called CAD.

The Role of CAD  in footwear designing:

  • Accurately generated and easily modifiable the graphical representation of footwear.
  • Perform complex design analysis and engineering analysis in short time.
  • Record and recall data with consistency and speed.

Main Parts of CAD system:

Basically there are two parts in CAD system-
  1. Special Software for footwear
  • SHOEMASTER
  •  CRISPIN
  • LECTRA
  • SHOEFAST
2. Hardware

Configuration of CAD system:

The CAD system consists of the following Hardware devices-
  1. Digital Computer : It is used to process the CAD operation.
  2. Workstation: Graphical terminals and Input device consist of the workstation such as Display center, Digitizer and tablet, Scanner, Joystick, Light pen, Mouse, Keyboard.
  3. Secondary storage-device: It can be Floppy disc/ Extra hard disc.
  4. Output device: It can be Plotter or Printer.

Benefits of CAD in footwear Designing

Why we use CAD in footwear designing? We use because of the following benefits-
  1. Fast and accurate pattern creation.
  2. minimize the pattern piece efficiency.
  3. Ensure accuracy of pattern making.
  4. Reduce the pattern making time.
  5. Costing of the product reduce.
  6. Change the design easily.
  7. Modify the design instantly.

What is Grading and grade?

Grading can be defined as a process in which pattern are cut on the basis of sampling pattern for obtaining other sizes required in a range which means pattern have to be made that bigger pattern for larger sizes( Ladies: 4.5-8) and Smaller pattern for lower sizes( Ladies:2-3.5).- Sampling size is called grading model; Ex: 4 for ladies is a model size , Its size is called sampling size.
Difference in measurement between one size and next size is called grade.
